Summer is alive and kicking and we’ve rounded up 6 of the best places to travel to in August — destinations that offer great weather, value, food and happenings. Check out our guide on where to go!
#1 Maldives
This favourite honeymoon destination is special for many reasons — the crystal clear water, world class diving and snorkeling and luxurious resorts. With peak season (read: dry and hot) being December through April, August means off-peak rates and while there may be some showers, it’s usually short and sweet so you won’t be deprived of your time in the sun for long.
#2 Bali
It’s no secret that we love Bali any time of the year, but it’s especially fun in August. Why? Because it’s party season so the island comes alive with events and happenings. It’s also the most pleasant month of the year as the balmy tropical weather is at it’s mildest, so you’ll spend less time blotting the shine off your face.
#3 Koh Samui
We love Samui all year round for its great food and stunning sunsets, but in August the weather is perfect — not too hot or humid, sunny, warm and breezy before the rainy season arrives in September. Perfect for lazing by the beach, sunset drinks and full moon parties!
#4 New York City
There’s really no bad time to visit the Big Apple but in August, the warm weather shines on the many music festivals, foodie events, open-air movies and plays at Central Park’s Shakespeare in the Park. Plus, New York is famous for people watching and celebrity spotting and there’s plenty of see-and-be-seen events for that!
# 5 France
Rain, shine or snow, Paris is beautiful but at the peak of tourist season in August, all the major attractions will have you sweating and battling other tourists in the sweltering heat. So do like Parisians do and head south to St Tropez, Côte d’Azur or Corsica where it’s bikinis, sandals and Vilebrequins all around and the sea is deliciously refreshing.
#6 Italy
What better time to indulge in authentic Italian gelato then in the summer (and all of Italy’s best dishes)? Enjoy the beautiful summer weather amidst lush scenery and visit Michelangelo’s David in Tuscany, or take a stroll around Lake Como where you might just bump into George and Amal Clooney (we’re crossing our fingers they don’t sell it), or ride the gondola and soak in the beauty of Venice.
