Tokyo is on it like a car bonnet. Premiering promotional footage for the next Olympics is a tradition at closing ceremonies, but Tokyo 2020 completely stole the show at the recent Ri0 2016 Closing Ceremony. They’ve pulled in the big guns with help from Super Mario, Pikachu, Hello Kitty, Doraemon and Pac-Man.
And best of all, one very sporting Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

You saw that right. That is in fact, the prime minister dressed up as Super Mario. And when “See you in Tokyo” popped up at the end, the crowd goes completely wild. It’s a stretch so early on in the game, but this could very well be the best Olympics of all time. Sorry, London.
Ps. It’s not too early to book your hotel years in advance.
