In the spirit of ski season upon us, it’s as good a time to gush about our stay at Youtei Tracks in Niseko, Japan. But first, if you need an introduction to the Alps of Asia, here are 7 things you need to know. Now that we’ve gone over the where, why, and what of Niseko, let’s fall straight into our experience in what we found to be the perfect place for the school holidays.
Granted, we say that all the time. The proof is in our picks for the most luxurious places to stay in Niseko.
Starting with location, location, location. The Youtei Tracks apartments are located in the upper Hirafu Village, an address is every bit elite as its name beckons. As close as you’ll get to the Ace Family chair lift some 350 meters away, the apartments are also located to Hirafu’s prime dining spots, bars (hello, apres-ski life!) and shops.
Youtei Tracks comprise of studio units, 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom apartments for up to eight Nomads. Facilities and amenities extend to free ski valet service for boots and gear, a storage room with a tuning bench, WiFi, and a Passport discount card that gives you discounts around town. Keep that last one handy.
Trading in alarms for the first morning, we chose to soak in sun-dappled views of the famous Mount Yotei, afforded by the apartment’s oversized windows. The day light finally allowed us take a good look around the work of Australian interior designer, Lynn Malone. Her vision for apartments that catered not just for stays but comfortable living, sees en-suite bathrooms, cosy living rooms and huge beds, aesthetically anchored by elements of wood.
Refreshments like tea and coffee, plus washing powder and body soap, are provided complimentary but upon arrival. You’ll need to replenish the necessities if needed.
Granted, you’ll be spending most of your stay outside the apartment be it ski season or summer, when there’s still a handful of enticing activities. But if you’re here during the best winter months between November to March, lessons for all levels and ages available and can be pre-booked prior to arrival. Niseko’s unique dining scene rules the night. Think charming spaces warmed up with just a few tables to cosy into, and the freshest seafood, most within walking distance of each other. That isn’t to say, you won’t get to live out your fantasy or brewing a bowl of udon in your very Japanese kitchen. We found the kitchen to be thoughtfully stocked with utensils, dishwasher and stove. Thankfully, the supermarket is just a short walk away… albeit in the cold.
If you’ve booked yourself a penthouse, grab a bottle of sake and end the night (or begin it…) in your own private Jacuzzi. The penthouses also each come with a home theatre, espresso machine and electric fireplace.
