Self-confessed beach-lover supermodel Cara Grogan-McIlroy recently spent her babymoon (it’s a thing) basking under the Maldivian sun. Only a few weeks shy of delivering, the beautiful Australian model (with Swiss/Irish/Thai/Chinese/Arabic descent – talk about a multi-racial lineage) and the The Genie Concept juice detox owner together with her hubby photographer and model Jesper McIlroy escaped to the picturesque marine paradise of Angsana Velavaru in Maldives.
We caught up with the certified hippy beach girl’s breathtaking adventure in Maldives and asked her questions about her travelling style, and her tips for having the best babymoon ever!
The most amazing thing about Angsana Velavaru?
Angsana Velavaru is truly a deserted island experience. Flying over the property was a breathtaking experience and the In-Ocean Villa was so luxurious that we barely left the room. It’s a place I’d love to take my baby girl to as they offer so many activities and even have a kids centre. Perfect family getaway!
5 Tips for having a Relaxing Babymoon?
1. Snorkel (you’ll need to get some exercise, plus the water is crystal clear).
2. Relax (this is pretty obvious).
3. Read a book (I could catch up on all my reading!)
4. Have a private romantic dinner in the sand (it’s a babymoon but that doesn’t mean romance is off the cards).
5. Eat (to your heart’s content!)
Worth Getting Out of Bed For?
The snorkelling is amazing. We looked forward to this everyday!
Worth Staying in Bed For?
The thunderstorms. There’s nothing better than being snuggled up in bed with your loved one. With the window blinds open, together, you can watch and listen to the rain and thunder.
When in Rome (or in this case, Maldives), remember to…
Respect and preserve the natural habitat of our marine life so that we and future generations can always enjoy its beauty.
Best Kept Secret?
There’s so much to see during the day, but you’ll also want to wake up in the middle of the night and go for a midnight stroll. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the beauty that awaits you……the phytoplankton were like stars in the sea.

Holiday Flings: Yay or Nay?
Nay… But if I were single, totally yay! Haha.
Turn Up at the Airport…
On time. My husband is always late! It drives me mad! But, he’s still my favourite travel buddy.
Shop the Local…
(When available) I always buy Christmas ornaments. Not very chic though; it’s more of my dorky side.
Favourite Holiday Soundtrack?
If I had to choose just one, it would have to be the “Now and Then” movie soundtrack. It always puts me in a good mood.
There was this one time…
When I got semi-naked and got body painted. Then, I went to a full moon party.
