Location

Skye Niseko is in Upper Hirafu, which is the more luxe side of the village. It is also where many ski-in-ski-out establishments are, since the lifts to the slopes are right in that area. Skye Niseko is only minutes away by shuttle from the nearest lifts, the Ace Family Quad Lift and the Hirafu Gondola. Niseko itself is located by the picturesque Mount Yōtei and is around a 2-hour drive west of New Chitose Airport.

The best bits

For starters, it’s a beautiful hotel with views of Hirafu that only get better when it’s the winter season, during which Mount Yōtei becomes a snow-capped vision. Don’t come without packing your cameras, obviously! Plus, you’ll want to take lots of pictures of you and your companions on the slopes.

The rooms and suites are luxuriously furnished with the essentials for a comfortable stay, and have fully equipped kitchens, and Smart TVs with Netflix and Apple TV. The most lavish units are the penthouses, which overlook the surrounding landscape from the topmost floor of the hotel.

Spacious interiors are coupled with elegant furniture, and the outdoor decks beckon guests with a fire pit and private onsen. Just picture yourself having a nice hot soak in the middle of winter, with a cup of hot chocolate in hand, taking in the view. (We sighed, too.)

Now about that ski adventure: Skye Niseko’s complimentary ski valet service takes care of storing and transporting your ski equipment. High-performance gear is available to rent in a wide range of sizes, if you don’t have your own. From the resort, you need only take a short shuttle ride to the lifts, after which you’re off to speeding your way down the slopes.

Wellness

And when it’s time to wind down, retreat to one of the onsens in the hotel: the shared ones are gender-segregated, but there’s also a private onsen you can book. Relieve any aches and pains, and just unwind for the sake of it at Ryko Spa, where you can choose your favourite treatments from an extensive menu.

Food & Drink

All guests are also welcome to enjoy daily complimentary breakfast during their stay. Visit Café Deli, which opens from 7am to 10pm for breakfast, a quick snack (which you can have to-go), or après-ski refreshments. Kumo restaurant, which serves Japanese soul-food by day and turns into a Hokkaido-style ikazaya by night, is where you can indulge in a menu of the freshest seafood and other Hokkaido delights, as well as Japanese sake and desserts.

What’s nearby

Hirafu is home to a number of other hotels, apartments and chalets, as well as restaurants, shops, and public onsens. Skye Niseko provides a free village shuttle service, which arrives at 15-minute intervals, for guests to go exploring. There’s also an hourly shuttle service that brings you to the bustling Kutchan Town, which is less than 20 minutes away.
