The vibe
You’ll know it from the pictures; Viceroy Bali is absolutely beautiful. Perched along a secluded ridge on the Petanu River Valley – Bali’s “Valley of the Kings” – and overlooking a spectacular jungle ravine, it exudes class and calm.
The moment we entered the resort’s compound, we were greeted by beautiful, lush manicured gardens and paddy fields which lined the long driveway to the resort’s main entrance.
Once we arrived at the main entrance and our feet exited the car, Viceroy Bali’s very friendly team were there to greet us with frangipani leis. After a very breezy check-in, we were whisked away to our villa via buggy.
The room
We stayed in a Deluxe Terrace Pool Villa. These villas with their huge living spaces and luxury fittings, like the large marble bathroom with 30cm(!!!) rain shower, combine modern Western features with traditional Balinese architecture creating a luxurious, yet authentic feel. The alang alang grass thatched ceiling transports you to another world.
Out on the terrace, the traditional bungalow (balé) that rests over the pool is a highlight of the villa. The balé looks out to the jungle vista which made us feel like we were in a hidden paradise. It was a great spot for a good midday snooze.
Food & drink
We had our breakfast each day at the Cascades Restaurant, located in the main area of the resort adjoining with an infinity pool that overlooks the valley. The food was very fresh, as they source most of their produce from their own greenhouse and from local organic farmers.
Viceroy Bali is also home to Apéritif an eclectic restaurant that, each evening, serves a stunning eight-course degustation menu which fuses the flavours of the old Spice Islands and modern Europe.

The service
The service was impeccable! The staff were so friendly; they really went out of their way to accommodate us. There was daily cleaning service and nightly turndown service with decorative frangipanis + mini chocolates laid out daily.
Our favourite part
The relaxing and tranquil experience was fantastic; the resort is so secluded, and you have an incredible amount of privacy. Even though there were other guests staying at the same time, it never felt crowded or noisy. The heated pool too was a big bonus. Viceroy Bali was a great place to unwind for a bit.
We can definitely see why it was named Conde Nast Traveler’s #1 Best Resort in the World Award for 2018.
