Ruffa Gutierrez is seriously gold. The Filipino actress, producer and TV Host recently paid The Luxe Nomad a visit, staying with us at AYA Niseko in, you guessed it, Niseko. We caught up with Ruffa to chat about her first ever Niseko adventure, her bucket list for the year and what it was like hosting Miss Niseko. Keep reading for the good stuff.
What were the highlights of your Niseko trip?
That I got to experience so many firsts on this trip! First of all, snowmobiling and snow tubing at Hanazono was AWESOME!
I had sushi & wagyu every day. I learned how to ski at the Grand Hirafu slopes, experiencing the world’s best snow and got to come back to our stunning AYA penthouse after a big day. Each night we enjoyed fully relaxing and soaking in our private onsen that was right on our balcony with a full view of Mt. Yotei.

What are your must-have winter items?
For my first Niseko trip, I went shopping for Heattech thermals at Uniqlo, and down jackets and gloves at Northface and Columbia. I also brought my waterproof boots, beanies, and ski outfits from Perfect Moment Sports. I had my Jo Malone lip balm, La Mer moisturiser, sunscreen plus two bags of medicine in case anyone got sick.
During your trip, you hosted Miss Niseko 2019. How was that?
I had a great time hosting Miss Niseko and meeting the nine gorgeous finalists from all over the world. There were so many amazing people who made me feel right at home. I hope they invite me again next year!
What events are you excited for this year? Why?
I’m the new beauty ambassador of Kerastase, plus I just renewed my contract with AVON PHILIPPINES. My daughters and I just launched AVON’s new campaign to end violence against women and children. This is something I hold close to heart since I was a victim of domestic abuse when I was married.
Then, many more endorsements, digital projects, a possible TV show and a new business venture, are in the works. Can’t wait to share with everyone!

Wow, that’s a lot! I’ve already visited BORACAY, LOS ANGELES, NISEKO, LOS CABOS MEXICO and next week I’m off to BALI. And it’s only March!
What were your first impressions of the penthouse?
As soon as I walked in our AYA penthouse blew me away! It’s modern with elegant minimalist design, spacious, and bright. We arrived on a clear sunny day, so the view of Mt. Yotei from our balcony was to die for! The best place to stay in Niseko!
What features of AYA stood out?
The service was impeccable. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. It’s convenient, central, you can ski-in-ski-out, and there is a ski valet. It was all so practical. We walked everywhere! I was able to exercise without realising it!
