Things are settling into a “new normal” and even festivities are taking on new looks.
If we’re being honest, watching New Zealand’s Prime Minister confirm to children that the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy are indeed essential workers but, they may not make it to each and every household this year as their own families might need them more is one of the more reassuring messages on adapting and getting creative that we’ve seen this week. It’s one simple way to enable people to cope with change.
We know things will continue to be “strange” for a while so we found 6 ways to celebrate Easter, from the safety of your own home, this year:
#1 Take the opportunity to put on your Easter best
If you’ve been shuffling between day and night (or even conference-call-) pyjamas, it’s time to dust off your best clothes and actually put them on.
#2 Schedule a virtual hang out
The extended family can’t get together at the moment so why not dodge those awkward well-meaning questions with a good old “internet connectivity error.”
#3 Dig out all your best Easter decorations
You can hide Easter eggs under a Christmas tree right?
#4 Decorate Easter eggs with the kids
Geometric designs, squiggly lines, paint, colourful sand, magic markers. Dig out the old art box and pour everything out onto the table. No one leaves until everyone has colourful smudges on their faces.
#5 Have an egg hunt in the backyard/neighbourhood
Wake your children up bright and early to search for their breakfast (beautifully decorated hard-boiled eggs) in the garden.
Or, take a leaf from Kiwi PM, Jacinda Ardern to have a drive-by neighbourhood egg hunt:
#6 Establish new traditions
How about a Zoom con-call for birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas too?
