#1 Mirror Lounge and Club
The vibe: Halloween at Hogwarts.
Music selection: DJs playing deep house and hip-hop.
If the Adam’s family wanted a night out, they’d come here to drink countless pints of beer and get weird on the dance floor. The decor resembles a Gothic cathedral with stained glass windows and high ceilings, but the laser lights are a stark contrast. Mirror isn’t the kind of place you can likely get a seat at — not even at the bar — so wear some comfortable shoes that adhere to the “dress to impress” dress code.

#2 Motel Mexicola
The vibe: Cinco de Mayo.
Music selection: Live Latin music.
Come for the food, stay for the tequila. This is absolutely one of our favourite spots in Bali because of its welcoming ambience, the open-air and music (Mariachi bands!). Motel Mexicola is floor-to-ceiling true to its Mexican theme with melting candles around an actual shrine and painted tiles. And there’s no way you can miss the tiny Mexican flags along the street. You might get frightened off by all the table-dancing Aussies though.

#3 Potato Head Beach Club
The vibe: Beachside music festival.
Music selection: Deep house and mostly indie electronica.
Think splendour on the beach. During the day it’s a family-friendly lunch venue with nice sun loungers, but when the sun goes down, the kids should head to bed so the adults can have all the fun at the Beach Club. There are people in the pool, some sitting at the bar, some relaxing at the lawn — it’s like one big Bali house party you don’t want to miss. Hey, there’s a reason everyone recommends Potato Head, right?

#4 La Favela
The vibe: Jungle party.
Music selection: Diversified tracks from across the globe.
For the “Partay! Partay!” crowd, there’s something so memorable about nights at the famed La Favela. It might be that it encompasses exactly what you have in mind when you envision partying in an exotic location. The decor comes from all over including South America, Mexico, Costa Rica and Brazil. It might also be the huge space with tons of nook and crannies that you can claim for your own. And you’ll be sipping on excellent house cocktails.

#5 Baker Street Social
The vibe: Sassy speakeasy
Music selection: Retro 1920s jazz
The vintage interiors might make it seem a bit 1920s gangster, but take one look at the House Rules and you’ll know that this is one bar that doesn’t actually take itself too seriously. This speakeasy, which can be found between a Greek and an Indian restaurant is a pretty chill place to have a “mystery drink” from the bartenders and have a chat.

#6 Double-Six Rooftop
The vibe: Grown-up, but still got it!
Music selection: Retro pop
50 feet about the Double Six Beach, the sunset views here are phenomenal, the people are chill and every seating option imaginable is there – we particularly like the sunken circular ‘floating’ pods for eight. The atmosphere here is pretty mellow, so you can actually have an intimate conversation.

#7 Ku De Ta
The vibe: Laid-back hedonism
Music selection: Electic soul and ecstatic beats
One of Seminyak’s original beach clubs, this hangout for the young and too gorgeous is for all-day sun lounging and cocktail sipping throughout the day. Stay for the sunsets in the lap of luxury and as soon as golden hour hits get to know why Ku De Ta’s musical reputation is a global one, bringing some of the biggest names in the industry to its beachfront stage.

#8 Red Carpet Champagne Bar
The vibe: Glamour meets resort casual
Music selection: Feel-good 70s, 80s, and 90s hits
If your cocktail of choice includes champagne, you’d do very well to find yourself at this bar which serves the most comprehensive champagne selection in Bali. The interiors are glamorous with the red carpet all rolled out, and celeb photos adorning the walls. The waitresses are all decked out in flight attendant-like wears. It’s a good vibe, even if most of the patrons tend to look like they’ve just rolled out of bed (but not off the beach).

This Great Gatsby-esque speakeasy is all about the Roaring Twenties. The art deco martini bar is intimate and luxe, with plush armchairs flanked by Tiffany-style lampshades. If you can figure it out where there is a private boudoir you can gain access to. And the cocktail collection here is all about the biggest Rock ‘n’ Roll legends.

See and be seen at WooBar. Take in the sunset from the sky deck or chill poolside. It’s all relaxation as the beats take over. If you want to feel super at ease with the world, try the shisha – it’s the talk of the town.

40 Thieves is where the expats in-the-know spend their weekends. This New York-style speakeasy is a dark, industrial space that radiates luxe 1920s style with distressed leather and vintage artwork. Plus, the two-for-one cocktails on Friday and Saturday nights make it a little too easy to stay around all night long.
