As little as three hours from downtown Tokyo, Hakuba is a relatively easy ski resort to get to for those in search of vast quantities of powder, varied terrain, family-friendly fun, and lots of bluebird days. Read on to learn how exactly to get to the slopes.

By Plane
For international visitors to the Hakuba ski scene, simply catch one of the many flights that arrive in Tokyo, either to Narita or Haneda international airports, each day. Toyoma Airport, to the west of Nagano, is also an option.
As outlined below, from the airport, you’ll have three options for getting to the slopes.

By Train
The cheapest method for getting to Hakuba is by the Shinkansen. From either airport, catch a train to Tokyo Station. We recommend using the Narita Express if you’ve landed in Narita, as it’ll get you into the city much more quickly than via the local trains.
Once you’ve arrived at Tokyo Station, catch the Asama Shinkansen (Green Line) headed towards Nagano. At Nagano, you’ll need to go to the bus terminal. Here, hop on the bus going to Happo – one of Hakuba’s resort towns. This method takes about 2.5 to 3 hours (about 1.5 hours on the train).
From Nagano Station, you can also hire a car to take you the rest of the way to Hakuba.
The bullet train costs approximately JPY 8,000 per adult and local buses from Nagano station cost about JPY 2,000 per adult (aged 12+) and JPY 1,000 per child over 6 years old.

By Private Car
If you have a large group (and not too much luggage), the most economical way to get into Hakuba is by private car. You can hire a taxi or rent a car of your own from the airports.

Chuo Taxi Service is highly recommended for those choosing to hire a taxi. This service can meet you directly upon arrival at the airport.
Alpico Group can also provide private transfers from Narita and Haneda airports, Tokyo City and Nagano Station.
Depending on traffic and snow conditions, driving can take anywhere from 4.5 to 6 hours.
By Shuttle Bus
For those with lots of luggage, shuttle buses are the way to go. Airport Shuttle Buses, like Nagano Snow Shuttle and ALPICO Kotsu, frequently run between the Tokyo airports and Hakuba. Remember to book these in advance!
A shuttle bus will typically cost between JPY 9,900 and 11,400 per person and takes about 6 hours.
