Inside My Carry On: GuavaPass’ Diane Chia on skincare essentials

As the General Manager of GuavaPass China and Malaysia, I travel a lot between Shanghai and KL. And while KL is warm all year round, winter in Shanghai can be really brutal on the skin. Pollution is a huge factor too, which is why I have a stricter beauty regimen and use a different set, typically more, products when weather conditions are harsher.

Diane Chia travels to different climates frequently, and packs her skincare accordingly.

I also make an annual trip to Europe via London since boarding school and university days and earlier this year, I went skiing in Verbier, Switzerland for my girlfriend’s hens. Yes, rather random but it was truly amazing – only then did I realise why people are obsessed with skiing! I travel frequently within Asia as well – Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, among other places, so I like to keep a separate beauty kit for those trips on standby.

As much as I love traveling, I’m so glad to be back in KL for all of October as we’re planning GuavaPass KL’s First Anniversary Bash #GuavaTurns1, happening on Saturday, 27th October 2018 at Sentul Depot. Everyone’s invited so do swing by! Who knows, there might be a beauty booth in the mix!

The Lowdown

Shu Uemura Ultime8 Sublime Beauty Cleansing Oil (approx. USD 40) is the most comforting way of taking the day off, anywhere in the world. Nothing stands a chance, whether it’s makeup, grime, or environmental pollutants. For a quick and refreshing clean, Aesop Parsley Seed Facial Cleanser (USD 43) a fragrant, mild botanical-based gel does the trick.

Masking is essential. I enjoy the classic SK-II Facial Mask (USD 17) or Aesop Blue Chamomile Facial Hydrating Masque (USD 55). They both rejuvenate and hydrate, and I can always rely on the SK-II to leave an instant glow.

How could anyone go wrong with SK-II Facial Treatment Essence (USD 179)? It’s plumping, brightening… an all round knockout. Unlike many toners, Aesop Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Facial Toner (USD 43) is gentle and doesn’t strip the skin’s natural moisture barrier as it preps the skin for thicker creams.

“Masking is essential.”

La Mer Crème de la Mer (USD 325) is perfect for flights or during winter, and Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate (USD 70) when I prefer something a bit lighter.

The eyes need a pick-me-up too, and Chanel Blue Serum Eye (USD 70) is the cool, soothing answer on long flights, especially necessary for de-puffing before landing.

My lip balm of choice is La Mer The Lip Balm (USD 60). It’s hands down, the very best. Minty but not cloying, it instantly melts into lips to soften and condition.

Essential oils, or good old Vicks VapoRub (USD 5.49) when I feel under the weather. For scents, I adore understated fragrances in moisturising formats like Diptyque Body Satin Oil (USD 62.33) or Jo Malone Body Crème in English Pear & Freesia (USD 30) or Oud & Bergamot (USD 95).
