Everything Bali starts in Seminyak, the epicentre of all the action. When planning your trip here –especially if it’s your first time on the island – you should book a villa for in Seminyak for the first couple of nights. Why? You’ll find some of the best nightlife, cafes and restaurants, shopping and people even, in this town (a strong case could be made for the neighbouring area of Canggu!). Once you tire yourself out, explore the rest of the islands in quieter areas like the cliffside Uluwatu, or Ubud for that classic, spiritual travel experience.
Our recent trip began with a two-night stay at La Villa Des Sens, a gorgeous 3-bedroom with a traditional Balinese design. The villa is located about 25 minutes away from Denpasar International Airport – just enough time for a quick snooze before checking in. A team of dedicated staff waited for us to arrive and were there every day to assist with anything we needed to make our trip perfect. They even gave us a phone with a local sim card should we need to get in touch easily.

[metaslider id=42744]La Villa Des Sens has a big master bedroom with bright red sheets and a canopy bed. The bathroom has a sunken tub and a small staircase which, apparently, leads nowhere. The other two bedrooms are almost identical, each with huge bathrooms, rain showers and sunken bathtubs too. The bedrooms feature paintings of Indonesian tribal women, complemented with tribe necklaces that sit on jewellery mannequins.
We spent most of the first day taking in the sights and sounds (hello, motorbikes!) of Seminyak, but our villa and that pool were the only things on our mind for the following day. Nana and Yaya, two lovely ladies who stay the day to make breakfast (delicious mee goreng to wake up to!) and keep everything in check, helped us make arrangements for an in-villa spa day. We got hot-stone massages and body scrubs, and agreed that for such an affordable price, these were some of the best massages we’ve ever had!
And because a pool day isn’t quite complete without a giant unicorn floating about, we found the perfect solution: a company called Get Float Bali – they came, inflated the floats, and picked them up the following day. A couple more things to do while you’ve got a huge villa all for your group: head upstairs to the media room and do some reading (or work) on beanbags, turn the music up on the sound system and pretend it’s your own little day club, and take lots of good pictures brought to you by the best natural lighting.
