The vibe
Two words: pink eclecticism. Villa A-Mar recently underwent a makeover and has emerged with pink woodwork and a heady mix of colourful soft furnishings and decorations. It sounds a lot, but makes perfect sense when you see it and fits right in with Canggu’s hippie-chic atmosphere.
You’re not short of spaces to relax, whether it’s the psychedelic-floral daybeds sofa facing the pool, the expansive pink daybeds in the shade (perfect for a cocktail party), comfy moulded deckchairs by the pool, or private pink nook under the pergola. There’s no beach view, but a cascade of lush greenery more than makes up for that.
The rooms
There are five bedrooms, each with their own ensuite bathroom, and if the villa is pink and warm outside, inside it’s all cool: high ceilings, cool cement floors and wafting curtains.
We loved the daybeds for when you’re not quite ready to face the day, the floor-to-ceiling windows and the tiny, quirky touches: turf-covered steps, pink headboards and pink flamingoes. The rooms are spread over two levels, each with their own view of the 18m pool.
What’s nearby
La Brisa Beach Club is a five-minute walk down the road, and beyond that, the black sands of Echo Beach. Perfectly situated for a morning stroll on the beach, then brunch at the beach club. Or late night cocktails if you don’t want to venture anywhere too far on the island. Some noise from the club drifts over to the villa on weekend nights, but nothing extreme.

Our favourite part
It’s surprisingly easy to get used to this much pink – and we ended up loving it. My favourite spot in the villa was the expanse of pink-upholstered day beds, surrounding huge, low coffee tables that we crowded food and drink on, and smooth wooden decks and cement flooring that the baby happily crawled around on. With all the fans on and a giant shell chandelier gently tinkling above, it was the ultimate in relaxation.
