Luxe Stay: Karma Kandara in Uluwatu, Bali

Couldn’t you get lost in beautiful Bali forever? It’s an island with something for every kind of traveller; surfers in Canggu, the spiritual Nomad in Ubud, and the fun-seekers in Seminyak. As for us, we think Uluwatu has that luxe factor. And when you’re in Uluwatu, Karma Kandara comes highly recommended (thanks, social media!), so we had to test it out for ourselves.

Karma Kandara features villas ranging from one to five bedrooms, each one with its own private pool, and the option of ocean or garden views. Our two-bedroom pool villa was in a word, stunning. Blissful is another word that perfectly describes the feeling of sinking into the beds, with warm linen sheets and fluffy pillows. The living area had a crisp and clean decor style, with beautiful artwork on the walls. We wasted no time in jumping into the private pool, coming out of the water only to enjoy the rest of our welcome drinks at the outdoor bale.

Boasting traditional Balinese decor and sunset views overlooking the cliff, Karma Kandara has three equally impressive dining options. Karma Kandara Beach Club — no doubt you’ve heard of how it’s won awards and is constantly raved about — serves excellent pizza which was our perfect post-swim treat. But if you’re craving something light, order from the delightfully healthy Spa Wellness food menu.

Then there’s also the romantic Mare Restaurant. Parents can drop their kids off at The Three Monkeys kids club before tucking into award-winning Mediterranean cuisine. But first, a couple of cocktail sips at the North African-inspired Temple Lounge.

And now on to more pressing issues — your spa time. At the Karma Kandara Spa & Sea Spa, you’ll be treated to invigorating mind and body treatments.  Having won the Luxury Spa Award 2015 guarantees excellent treatments which are well worth the splurge. Feeling more adventurous? Whether it’s snorkelling in the lush marine life or paddle-boarding, spend your days barefoot, packed with water sports and an outdoor movie under the stars on the beach at night.
