The Edge is exclusively located at the highest cliff point in Bali, illustrated by views of the glistening Indian Ocean. Although technically located in the quiet village of Pecatu, The Edge borrows the nearby Uluwatu address. The Edge is known famously for two things in particular: its award-winning spa and ideal wedding location. The only lack here is direct beach access, but the views are a fair trade.
Guests are especially drawn to the appeal of being pampered from check-in to check-out. The service staff are amazing and comply with every manageable request. Your holiday begins a few days before boarding your flight. The butler sends you an email to get acquainted, even asking you to pre-select your welcome drink (5 options) and what kind of pillows you like.
The front desk service is up and at it all day, while the 24/7 butlers all have “Magnum Butler Training”. Upon arrival, the villa’s executive chef and his team pop by to plan a bespoke menu for your stay. Craving for a food you won’t find on the island? They might just fly it in for you.
The rooms: Couples and singles can book the 1-bedroom villa, and bigger parties have the option of up to 10-bedrooms. No matter which villa you decide on, every one of them has their own private pool. The villas are designed with a fusion of Balinese and Western furnishings, each piece and detail contributing to its overall perfection. And the best part is that you can really make your villa feel like your dream home when you turn on the audio visual entertainment and sink into the oversized bathtubs. The kids have a special play room, and everyone can enjoy the private cinema.
Our stay had us at the 2-bedroom “The Mood” which was over-the-top stunning. The villa featured a huge living room and dining room, an outdoor dining area, large infinity pool, pond with huge koi fish, poolside bale and daybeds. Upstairs, the dual master bedrooms had a spacious balcony with loungers. The bathrooms featured big soaking tubs, as well as an indoor and outdoor shower.
What to do:
- Get to know Bali like a local. The drivers and front concierge are extremely helpful in helping you find the best spots, from the must-do “touristy” spots to more subdue gems like where to score a good cup of Indonesian kopi. The Pecatu golf course is a five-minute drive from the villa, and the beaches Kuta and Jimbaran are a little further out.
- Have a drink in hand at the poolside bar, where the glass floors right towards the cliffs. Even the gym has full glass windows that center around the prime views.
- A must for spa-lovers: The Edge is proud of having one of the best spas in Bali, though we think it’s one of the best in Asia. Asia Spa magazine named the “Most Innovative Spa of the Year” in 2010. Water flows inside the treatment rooms as if the sea merged with the sky and sea merge together. Treatments are inspired by the four basic elements of a simple Balinese temple offering called canang; sacred flowers, blessed water, life-giving rice, and sincere devotion.
Rating: 5/5
Most memorable: The staff, spa, and views — in exactly that order.
We’d recommend it to: Families that want to de-stress and enjoy their vacation without worrying about every tiny detail.
