When you’re on the road, sleeping pool- or beach-side all day sounds so much more appealing than trying to research and find a gym or discover new running routes. And even though The Luxe Nomad’s concierge team can book a yoga instructor or trainer to come to your villa, getting organised to work out can sometimes feel like it requires too much motivation. You’re on holiday after all. Some days, however, when the clock strikes midnight, and that third serving of dinner isn’t sitting right, it might be time to get moving – even if just for a quickie session. To help you out, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite workout apps that’ll help you stay fit no matter where you are or what time it is – and all with minimal equipment and, in some cases, time.
8Fit – Fitness and, for when you get home, nutrition
Featuring custom and no-equipment workouts that can be as short as 15 to 20 minutes in length, 8Fit is all about getting you where you want to be. What we love about this app is that it explains proper exercise form to you, so you’re not going to accidentally injure yourself attempting something new. Plus, 8Fit offers nutrition guidance and meal plans (for when you come home only, of course).
The app has a free 14-day trial on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Nike Training Club – Train with the stars
Probably one of the best free training apps out there. Nike doesn’t care what your fitness level is, how much time you want to devote, or what you’ve got to work with. The app, with workouts created or inspired by some of your favourite athletes and celebrities, offers bodyweight strength workouts, cardio, yoga and everything in between.
You can find the app for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Asana Rebel – For a taste of yoga-fusion
With new workouts each week, Asana Rebel offers tons of yoga-based exercises for you to develop flexibility, burn fat and build strength. The program is not “pure” yoga, as the workouts can incorporate everything from HIIT training to pilates. Some of the workouts are as short as five minutes, so you can squeeze in some quality fitness time whenever the mood strikes. All you need is a yoga mat (or a patch of grass).
You can download the app for free (but there is a subscription if you want full access) on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

7 Minute Workout Challenge – If you’re willing to go all out (quickly)
If you’re willing to give your everything for seven minutes a day (and no more!), this app might be your fitness gift from the holiday gods. 7 Minute Workout offers twelve sets of exercises that are performed for thirty seconds each with ten-second rest intervals. If you can last for the seven minutes, you should see improvements in your metabolism – hooray for having more room for food!
You can find the app for USD3.99 on the Apple App Store or USD3.49 on Google Play.
Sworkit – For beginner fitness aficionados
“No equipment needed” is music to our ears when we’re roaming the world. Sworkit tailors effective workout plans to those who are looking to get leaner, fitter and stronger, regardless of current fitness level (although it’s especially useful for people just starting their fitness journey). Users can also connect with personal trainers to get real advice. Workouts range from programs like 5-minute abs to yoga for runners.
The app has a free 7-day trial on the Apple App Store or on Google Play.
