It’s the last week of June, and we hope you’ve had a splendid, adventurous month. As we prep our itinerary for July’s travel (we’ve got plenty to share with you!), we’re also catching up on some of the happenings this week in travel over a hot cup of coffee. Join us, won’t you?
#1 Barcelona Becomes a Time Machine (Sort of)
Who: Nomads who prefer not to disclose their true age.
Where: Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona
What: The 5-Day rejuvenation Anti-ageing Retreat is no casual splurge, but can you really put a price on a five night stay in the Deluxe room, Lifestyle and Nutrition Consultation, daily yoga, pilates, power-walking or jogging, unlimited use of spa facilities, a complete rejuvenating diet at BistrEau restaurant, two body treatments, a collagen facial, and pedicure? Yes you can. Euro 3,605.
#2 Hoverboards are (Almost) FINALLY Here
Who: Lexus, for the world! Or just the rich.
Where: Where indeed.
What: Oh hot dayumn, Lexus. The luxury car powerhouse released a teaser trailer for an actual hoverboard, without releasing too much information. What we do know is this: it’s called SLIDE and is part of the “Actions in Motion” series, floats via a magnetic lift through nitrogen-cooled superconductors and permanent magnets, feature’s the brand’s signature grille shape, has a natural bamboo exterior and finally a hashtag to rule them all; #LexusHover.
#3 Packing is so Last Week in Travel
Who: Jet-setting nomads whom are always on the red-eye.
Where: Only in the U.S for now, but in due time Canada, Europe and Asia.
Where: “Changing the way the world travels” is the startup DUFL, an app that takes care of all the cleaning, ironing, packing, and shipping of your belongings. All you have to do is create an account, fill up the suitcase DUFL sends you with all the clothes and toiletries you like to travel with, and when it comes time to travel in a moment’s notice, just pack virtually on your phone and your luggage will be waiting for you when you arrive, all clean and pressed.
#4 Uber Trouble in Paris!
Who: France‘s taxi drivers
Where: A number of areas in Paris, namely roads leading to Charles de Gaulle and Oily airports.
What: Cabbies made their hatred for UberPop loud, clear and dangerous, with a massive riot that blocked of access in some parts of Paris, which includes train stations in Marseilles and Aix-en-Provence and a major road that rings central Paris. Reports say demonstrators are even burning tires and overturning vehicles. Courtney Love seems to have found herself in the middle of trouble once again, tweeting “They’ve ambushed our car and are holding our driver hostage.” We seriously hope everyone is safe!
#5 Bali Just Got a Whole Lot Better
Who: Luxe nomads.
Where: Ubud, Bali
What: The Luxe Nomad is excited to have added a collection of four Komaneka resorts to its Bali repertoire. Komaneka has some of the best reviews on TripAdvisor and we certainly weren’t disappointed with our stay. They’re all located in Ubud so picking one is tricky! To make it easier, we recommend Bisma for families, Rasa Sayang for the young and hip, Monkey Forest for the nature lovers and Tanggayuda for the soul-searchers.
Friday, we’re in love.
